CPAP Filters

Did you know your machine has 2 filters that should be changed regularly?

Most machines today have a foam filter that should be popped out and hand cleaned when visibly dirty ( about once per month) These foam filters, if cleaned regularly can last a few years.

The white fine filters ( as they are called) may sit BEHIND the grey foam filters or on some machines are located elsewhere. Check your patient instruction manual that came with your machine…you know, the ones were rarely read!!

The white fine filters - VERY IMPORTANT to replace these regularly. Think of them like your air conditioning filters…look at them monthly and if they are visibly dirty, replace them. I change mine monthly.

Our CPAP machines are expensive and an investment in our good health, so we need to take care of them!

You check your air conditioning filters at home, and the variety of filters in your car because you know that doing so will keep things running smoothly. Same holds true for your CPAP machine.

The first of every month, when I check my air conditioning filter - I also remember to change my CPAP filter…makes it easier to remember that way!

Good Sleep!

I am disgusted with Resmed Corporation's charges that are paid by taxpayers. I'm fortunate to have Medicare, so I'm not out anything. I can't believe what a struggle it is to get Single Payer Health Care passed so that everyone will benefit from the good "socialized" medicine that Medicare is.

My beef with Resmed is that they charge $22.99 for that gray foam filter, and $10.99 for the white paper filters. People, c'mon…the foam can't be worth more than 50 cents and the white paper filters can't be worth more than 25 cents. Reminds me of former VP Cheney's Halliburton company in Iraq. And we all know how much the Bush Crime Thugs have gouged this country! The chin strap is, get this, $59.62!

I'm not making this up, I'm looking at the invoice. Oh, and I'm not through…The CPAP "Mask" is $215. The resevoir $32. This is crazy. When you think of the people who don't have insurance and cannot afford this equipment and die early deaths from a lack of a few dollars that this product is actually worth…if Resmed wasn't run by some soulless corporate monster, this indecent practice would not continue. I'm an activist and I'm going to call Medicare, DSHS, Sen Patty Murray, and Sen. Maria Cantwell of Washington state. I'm going to call until I can reach someone who can do something about this atrocious gouging. Anyone not able to afford this equipment ought to join with me to "ask the hard questions" of the powers that be. If sleep deprivation causes so much suffering and effects the bean-counter's bottom line, its time to get a grassroots organization together. Only takes a few people. Let me know your thoughts. As President Obama so confidently stated, "Yes, We Can!"

I want to include the fact that the CPAP equipment total is a whopping $402.13 paid by the taxpayers for something that should cost no more than $30. Now, I have a problem with that when so many of my hard-working over-taxed friends are forced to suffer unnecessarily. But there's enough for a $3 trillion dollar, and counting, war in Afghanistan.
