Hello my name is Yvonne. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea in May 2007. I have a C-pap machine that I sleep with. Lately for about the last 2 months I am having difficulty sleeping through the night. I go to sleep around 10:00pm and I an wide awake around 1:00 -1:30. I lay there for hours before I get sleepy againg and then it is time to get up and go to work. I have another sleep test scheduled with 2 weeks, I hope the test will shed some light on what's going on. I am always very tired.

    Hello Yvonne;
    When we have found success with CPAP and after time, our old apnea symptoms start to reappear, its a clue that our CPAP pressure needs readjusting. Chances are your pressure needs increasing. It's very common for us to need pressure changes, up or down, over our life time on CPAP.

    I am glad you have a titration scheduled soon. Do let us know how that experience goes and if they indeed do change your pressure.

    It's good that you contacted your sleep doctor to investigate - I think of my apnea as a life long medical issue and similar to if I had a heart condition, I would have regular heart physicals every year or two. I monitor myself and when I start experiencing day time sleepiness or morning headaches, its my clue to have a titration and pressure needs checked. In most all cases, ( 14 trips to the sleep lab in 20 years) I have indeed needed a small pressure increase.

    You will be surprised as to how a slight pressure increase or decrease can immediately resolve your sleepiness.

    Best to you and let us know what happens!
    Tracy

    Hello Tracy,

    I had my titration on Friday. After waking up twice during the night whne the procedure was going on. I asked the technologist about my CPAP pressure and she informed me that it was fine and that it did not need to be adjusted. She told me that she did not have a clue as to why I was waking up during the night and that I would need to discuss this with my doctor. She did tell me that she thinks that there is something wrong with the blower on my machine because it is making a hissing noise. I have a doctor's appointment scheduled for Tuesday (February 9th) and I will be discussing the findings then. I need a anser to this because I am so tired.

    yarline - ah, hissing and whistling noises are not good and often the first indication that our machine fan is "going". I hope you are still in your warranty time frame!

    I'll be anxious to hear what the doc says! In the meantime, find your original paperwork for your machine to check on the warranty. Your home health supplier should be able to check the machine for FREE with a manometer to see if its putting out the prescribed pressure accurately!

    Thinking of you!

    One of the ladies at the sleep center indicated that she was going to check on seeing if my insurance company will provide a new CPAP machine. The one that I currenty have I got through my insurance at the time which was Aetna. I am now covered under Blue Cross Blue Shield. My current machine I have had for almost three years. I should be hearing from her withing a couple of days. I have a doctor's appointment today and the lady from the sleep center said that the full report wont be available to the doctor yet, but that they should be able to fax a prelimenary report today. Will let you know how it works out.
