somnomed as a last resort

Ok. So I just had surgery to correct a deviated septum in my left nostril only to have the doctor tell me that it will "likely" improve the snoring. This is after going to a sleep specialist and trying a mouth guard bought off the shelf. The latter provided incredible jaw pain so stopped after 2 weeks. He said that I'd need to give it a good month to get accustomed to the appliance. I've decided to try the custom made on. Spare no expense! I'm so tired of being frikking tired.

I'll let you know of any updates. I'll have to let the swelling go down in my nose before I make this decision just in case it has by some miracle corrected it. Fingers crossed…big time.

I am confused - were you diagnosed with primary snoring or sleep apnea?
I had a deviated septum surgically corrected too - it did not cure my apnea, but it did enable me to breathe well through both nostrils so cpap use was better to adjust to AND it kept me from needing a full face mask. In my case, the surgery did not stop my snoring.
fyi - primary snoring is snoring without the presence of apnea events.

Hey, Tracy. Sorry.Failed to get into the details. I attended a sleep clinic 2 years ago and no, I don't have sleep apnoea. The doctor was a bit dismissive, in fact saying that at MY AGE I should place emphasis on the sleep I'm able to get. In other words, the older you get, the less sleep you'll experience.

I do snore, however and that's been nicely diagnosed by my partner of 14 years.

I've wanted to get my nose fixed for ages and the doctor performing the procedure said it would really help to reduce the snoring, but in case it didn't (there's always a disclaimer, isn't there?) he strongly suggested the somnomed.

So, I reckon I have primary snoring without sleep apnoea.

It's a bit of a wait and see - the swelling has to come down before I can make a fully informed decision.

    Hope that helps! cheers, Nanet

Hi, Tracy. It's my second week after the surgery and my nasal passages are still a bit swollen. I think that I'll get a better idea in a few more weeks.

Pain has gone, but nose it still a bit tender, but all quite manageable…thank God.

    Thanks for your interest!
